My Approach

embrace your emotions without letting them run wild

My approach to therapy is rooted in the belief that to be human is to experience joy and pain, pride and shame, hope and fear. Each day brings new emotions and it is our life’s work to learn how to welcome them all. In the words of Rumi, “Be grateful for whoever comes, because each has been sent as a guide from beyond.”

In this spirit, we will work together to learn how to recognize and manage patterns and emotions when they come up without trying to erase them. I encourage self-compassion, humor, and an understanding of how past pain leaks into your life today and undermines your goals.

Intuition and experience helps me tailor my approach to each individual. Together we will agree on small steps, then link progress on those steps to feeling better.

Through our work I hope you will gain the ability to look at yourself objectively, apply perspective to your life and move forward with your goals.

Let’s get things done, together.

Hi, I’m mary. i’m glad you’re here.

I am a licensed marriage and family therapist in California with over 32 years of experience. I hold a masters in marriage and family counseling from San Francisco State University. Before opening my online therapy practice, I served as program manager of adult behavioral health and alcohol and other drugs at the County of Nevada and as a marriage and family therapist with Sierra County Behavioral Health and Sierra Plumas School District. I currently work as a contract therapist with Sierra County Behavioral Health in California.

I have been trained in a variety of approaches which allows me to be flexible to the needs at hand. My therapeutic style is relational and solutions-focused, honoring my client as the expert of their own experience. When I see clients master skills and gain insight that produces progress towards their goals, I feel energized.

I enjoy a good cappuccino and experiencing new people and places.
